Corruption = Attachment: Notes on "Human Love"

I sense that some still need to hear this.

Corruption doesn't necessarily mean evil.

It means something pure becoming distorted.

Every corruption introduces need.

Real attachment usually sounds contractual.

• "I'll love you if..."
• "I'll forgive you when..."
• "I'll support you as long as..."

The interesting thing is that the ego almost always keeps score.

Attachment keeps records.

Attachment remembers sacrifices.

Attachment demands repayment.

Love, does not.

Corruption = Love + Fear

or

Attachment = Love filtered through the ego.

"...the word 'love' is misunderstood....it is not meant to be the love in human terms which humans are enslaved by. That is the corrupt version of the real one."

The word has been corrupted—not necessarily the underlying principle.

"Human love" seems to include things like:

• possession
• romance
• family attachment
• emotional dependence
• sacrifice born from guilt
• rescuing
• sentimentality
• identity through relationships
• "I need you."

In other words:
Love mixed with ego.

Compare this with various traditions:

Vedanta

Human love:
"I love you because you make me complete."

Divine love:
"I recognize the same Self appearing as you."

Very different.

Buddhism

Attachment is often mistaken for love.

Compassion without attachment is considered much higher.

One can love completely while being entirely free.

Gnosticism

Emotional attachment binds souls deeper into the material world.

True love is recognition of the divine spark.

Hermeticism

Love is viewed less as emotion than as the attractive force underlying creation.

Christian mysticism

Agape differs from eros.

Agape isn't emotional affection.

It's participation in Divine Being.

Notice how these all separate:

emotion ≠ love
attachment ≠ love
desire ≠ love

Some esoteric schools distinguish between:

Kindness vs. Compassion

Kindness says:
"I don't want you uncomfortable."

Compassion says:
"I want what ultimately liberates you."

Those can be opposite.

Love as a force instead of a feeling...

Another interesting possibility...

Instead of:

God is Love

It is closer to:

Love is the intrinsic coherence of Reality.

That changes everything.
Love isn't a feeling beings possess.
It's the principle by which reality remains in harmony with itself.
Then "loving" someone isn't primarily feeling warmth.
It's relating to them in accordance with Truth.

• Human beings mistake emotional attachment, possession, dependency, and identity for love.

• These experiences are unstable because they arise from the personality.

• Divine Love is not an emotion but perfect alignment with "Reality" and "Divine Law".

• It neither indulges illusion nor avoids necessary correction.

• It seeks liberation rather than comfort, and therefore may appear impersonal—or even severe—from the perspective of the ego.

• Freedom from attachment is not the absence of love but the condition in which genuine love becomes possible.

Examples of "enslavement by love"

1. The Family Industrial Complex

The message isn't usually:
"Stay because you're terrified."

It's:
"If you loved your family..."

Love becomes leverage.

Examples:

• "...you'd come home for Christmas."
• "...you wouldn't move away."
• "...you'd have grandchildren."
• "...you'd forgive your abusive father."
• "...you'd sacrifice your career/personal needs."

Notice the hidden assumption:
Love = self-abandonment.

2. Romantic relationships

"I'm jealous because I love you."

No.
Jealousy may arise because you're attached.
Those aren't identical.

Or:
"I can't live without you."

That could sound romantic.
It is actually dependence.

3. Parenting

This one is fascinating.
Parents often genuinely love their children.
But attachment sneaks in.

"I only want what's best for you."

Sometimes true.

Sometimes means:
"I need you to validate my identity as a parent."

The child becomes an extension of the parent.

4. Helping professions

People become exhausted "out of love."

But underneath:
"I have to save everyone."
"I can't disappoint people."
"My worth depends on helping."

Again—
love has become identity.

5. Nationalism (And, any other -ism, including feminism, veganism, etc.)

Love of country, love of ________.
Beautiful.

Until:
"*My country/________ is incapable of wrongdoing."

Attachment has replaced discernment.

6. Spiritual communities

"I love my teacher."

Okay.
Until...

"I cannot question them."

Love becomes surrender of discernment.

7. Pets

"I love my dog/cat/etc.."

True! Of COURSE.

Then the dog/cat/etc. dies.

Life loses all meaning.

Was it love?

Or attachment?

Perhaps both.

8. Ideas

"I love this philosophy."

Then someone critiques it.
Suddenly...
anger.

Looks like identity has attached itself to an idea.

To finish: "You are not here to go beyond distortion but to live within distortion by faith, to express within this confusion a trust in the plan that placed you here, a trust in the destiny that is absolutely yours".
